THE NAMPULA, MOZAMBIQUE, REFORMED CONFERENCE
Your prayers are asked for the third annual Fiel (Faithful) Conference Nampula, Mozambique, on 28-30 August. Over 145 pastors and church leaders have registered already from eight of Mozambique's 10 provinces. They expect final attendance to almost double that of the previous two years.
Please ask God to direct the men of His choice to the conference, and to meet with them there. Our speakers are Josafa Vasconcelos, Presbyterian minister and a leading evangelist from Brazil, and Ronald Kalifungwa from Zambia, pastor of a church in Pretoria, South Africa. We are asking God to bless their ministries. Karl Peterson and Dr. Charles Woodrow of the hosting church will also be taking some messages and elective sessions. Charles' talks are on the Pastor's Home, an important area of ministry for all of us, but especially critical here in Mozambique where there are few good examples to learn from. Please pray that those messages will be an asset to the conference.
Perhaps even more than the teaching, pastors eagerly anticipate the opportunity to purchase excellent Christian books at the conference. Christian bookstores do not exist here, and Editora Fiel, the Brazilian publishing house that first began these conferences in Brazil years ago, has sent many hundreds of books to sell at the conference. We sell these books for less than one third their actual cost to the publishers. That is the only way African pastors could afford them. You can imagine what a great ministry this is to them. Richard Chiorino will be heading up the book ministry.
Charles Woodrow's biggest task in handling local logistics is the meals. Pray that the pastors would be refreshed and pleased in the way their temporal needs are met. The Conference organisers don't skimp in this area.
The previous two conferences were each owned of the Lord and have been the high points of all our years of service here. This one appears to be following in the same pattern. The Nampula church leaders are encouraged by the growing enthusiasm for the conference and the good reputation it is gaining. Please pray that this year's meeting will add to the good report the previous ones have earned.
