UPDATE ON DR. JAMES MONTGOMERY BOICE
On May 10th, Dr. Boice completed his first round of out-patient chemotherapy to treat the cancer in his liver. Please pray that soon enough of his physical strength would be restored to enable him to resume his writing and preaching ministry.
As of May 26th, the effects of Dr. Boice's liver cancer continue to weaken his body, but he remains in good spirits. Members of Tenth's Pastoral staff visited Dr. Boice on Thursday and joined him in singing some of his newest hymns with great exuberance.
As of Sunday, May 28, the most recent tests results were not encouraging. Dr. Boice is home and he is not in pain, but he is extremely weak. Please pray for the visiting nurse who attends to Dr. Boice's medicals needs, and that Dr. Boice would continue to know God's peace and comfort, and that his family would know that as well.
On Wednesday, May 31, Dr. Boice begun to receive hospice care. An aid comes to visit him in his home for an hour each day to care for some of his basic needs. Please pray that Dr. Boice will have the strength and concentration to finish writing the introductions explaining the origins and content of the hymns he has written with Dr. Jones. The Boices have been drawing encouragement from 2 Corinthians 4:16-17: "We do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all."
On Wednesday, June 7, Dr. Boice is resting at home in bed. His daughters have gathered in Philadelphia to be at his side. Although Dr. Boice continues to receive hospice care, he will not receive any further treatment for the cancer.
On Friday, June 9, There will be no further treatment for Dr. Boice's cancer, but he continues to receive hospice care and the constant attention of his family at home. Plans are being made to sing some of Dr. Boice's hymns at the PCA General Assembly in Tampa, including this verse from "Perseverance": "We face death for God each day; What can pluck us from his way? Let's God's people ever say, 'Nothing.' Hallelujah!"
